GEORGE BLAHA

The art of doing;
without doing.

To pretend, I actually do the thing: I have therefore only pretended to pretend.

-Jacques Derrida

Know all things to be like this:
A mirage, a cloud castle,
A dream, an apparition,
Without essence, but with qualities that can be seen.

Know all things to be like this:
As a magician makes illusions
Of horses, oxen, carts and other things,
Nothing is as it appears.

My work explores the relationship between Jungian archetypes and UFO sightings. With influences as diverse as Nietzsche and Joni Mitchell, new insights are distilled from both opaque and transparent layers.
Ever since I was a postgraduate I have been fascinated by the endless oscillation of the human condition. What starts out as contemplation soon becomes corrupted into a tragedy of power, leaving only a sense of failing and the prospect of a new understanding.
As shifting forms become distorted through boundaried and repetitive practice, the viewer is left with a tribute to the possibilities of our era.
